Arajet is a low-cost airline and the flag carrier of the Dominican Republic. Its operations began in September 2022 with a flight to Colombia’s Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAO). The carrier plans to begin flying to the United States next year with three initial cities planned.
The airline plans to fly to Miami International Airport (MIA), New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK), and San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU). Santo Domingo’s Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) and Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) will serve as the destinations when flights launch in the second quarter of 2025. Arajet has received approval from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to begin flying to and from the United States. Tickets will go on sale once the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) gives Arajet the green light.
Victor Pacheco, CEO and Founder of Arajet, said:
This is an important milestone and we are excited to officially launch in the United States next year. These routes will open more travel to the U.S., a very important market for the Dominican Republic, and our low-fare flights will provide new opportunities to grow tourism and business. We’re eager to welcome American travelers and its diaspora communities to the Dominican Republic and further establish the country as an exciting hub connecting to 16 countries in the Americas.”
Arajet flew more than one million passengers in 2024. This represents more than 7% of the total number of passengers flying to and from the Dominican Republic and its two hubs offer flights to 23 destinations in 16 countries. It operates a fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
The Open Skies Air Transport Agreement between the Dominican Republic and the United States will eliminate restrictions on flight routes and frequencies between the two countries. American tourists will soon enjoy affordable, direct routes to the Dominican Republic.
Anthony’s Take: I’ve never heard of Arajet, but it will be interesting to see it make its way to the United States in 2025.
