I love scary movies and make it a point to check out a haunted attraction each fall. Haunted houses have come a long way from people in sheets and canned soundtracks. These are now major theatrical productions with makeup and prosthetic teams, scripted skits, elaborate sets, and theater-quality lighting and sound. America Haunts, the association of haunt industry powerhouses, has announced its picks for the best haunted attractions this year. It’s not too early to get your scare on.

Netherworld

NETHERWORLD Haunted House (Atlanta, GA)

Thrill seekers taking in this supernatural journey will be wowed by what has been created by some folks with a background in film and television. Visitors to NETHERWORLD see movie special effects, scare-acting techniques, and elaborate set constructions in this haunted attraction.

Dead End Hayride

Dead End Hayride (Minneapolis, MN)

Dead End Hayride offers a hayride as the name implies, but it also has multiple micro haunted houses throughout the property and a Haunted Cornfield. Set in the creepy Minnesota backwoods, this attraction takes visitors on a terrifying journey through dark forests and desolate cornfields before plunging them into a labyrinth of fear.

13th Gate

13th Gate (Baton Rouge, LA)

13th Gate offers ultra-realistic scenes and Hollywood-level set designs. This haunt feels disturbingly real, with each room meticulously crafted to blur the lines between horror and reality. From dark catacombs to crazed inmates, 13th Gate’s attention to detail and variety of scares ensure a heart-pounding experience from start to finish.

Cutting Edge

Cutting Edge Haunted House (Fort Worth, TX)

Cutting Edge draws in fans from around the globe with its unique approach to terror. It provides an immersive haunt experience infused with musicians and a haunting drumline.

The Beast

Beast Haunted Attraction (Kansas City, MO)

The Beast delivers an immersive experience from the creators of America’s longest-running haunt. The Beast take you to a 17th-century castle where torturous dungeons loomed, the shadowy streets of Jack-the-Ripper’s London, and into a creepy swamp. There are no barriers, and the creatures of the Beast get close to guests as they navigate their way out.

Anthony’s Take: Two of this year’s haunts also made the list last year. This year’s picks all look like they’re creepy and a lot of fun. We were at Bran Castle last year for Halloween and found some old world scares in Transylvania. We’ll see what this Halloween brings.
