The Aeroplan® Credit Card offers 75,000 points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first three months from account opening, plus an additional 25,000 bonus points after spending $20,000 on purchases in the first 12 months. This is a lot to spend, but it’s a pretty meaty offer (one of the highest ever offered on the card).

Aeroplan® Credit Card

The card carries a $95 annual fee, but with that you’re also granted instant Aeroplan 25K status for the remainder of the calendar year that the card is opened in as well as the following calendar year. This status is normally earned when you earn 25,000 Status Qualifying Miles (SQM) or 25 Status Qualifying Segments (SQS), in addition to $3,000 in Status Qualifying Dollars (SQD). This is Aeroplan’s entry-level status, but it offers some good benefits when flying Air Canada. These include:

  • Priority Contacts
  • Priority Reservation Waitlist
  • Priority Airport Check-In
  • Priority Airport Standby
  • Two Complimentary Checked Bags
  • Two Maple Leaf Lounge Passes
  • Priority Boarding
  • 20 eUpgrade Credits
  • Five Additional eUpgrade Credits
  • Complimentary Preferred Seats
  • 250 Points Minimum Earned Per Flight
  • Aeroplan Elite 25% Status Bonus With Select Airlines
  • Star Alliance Silver Status
  • and More

You can retain the Aeroplan 25K status by spending $15,000 on the card within a calendar year. If you spend $50,000 in a calendar year, you can earn a one-level status boost to 35K elite status or higher for each additional $50,000 in spend.

If you’re unable to maintain the status, the card still offers lots of benefits, including:

  • 3x points for each $1 spent at grocery stores, restaurants, and Air Canada directly
  • 1x points for each $1 spent on all other purchases
  • First free checked bag on Air Canada flights (along with up to eight companions on the same reservation)
  • 500 bonus points for every $2,000 you spend in a calendar month – up to 1,500 points per month.
  • Travel protection (trip cancellation and interruption insurance, baggage delay insurance, trip delay reimbursement, auto rental insurance, and roadside assistance)

Anthony’s Take: It takes a lot of spend to hit the 100,000 bonus points, but if you’re a big spender and/or an Air Canada loyalist it makes sense to have the Aeroplan® Credit Card in your wallet. Learn more.
