United Airlines is rolling out regional, signature entrees across its domestic First Class meal offerings. Last week, I got to try the Chicago selection: Chicken Vesuvio with Roasted Potato Wedges, Green Peas, Herbed Peppered Parmesan, and a Grilled Lemon Wedge.
This was one of the more palatable options that I have had on board a United flight recently. The catering has been improving domestically (even though I still find Polaris® bad). This chicken was moist and flavorful. The sauce was a little gummy, but the potatoes and peas were nice inclusions to keep the dish true to its recipe. The meal was available for pre-order only and I’m glad that I selected it.
United also gets kudos here for the green salad (not just a bowl of cabbage) and the apple cake. Both rounded out the meal nicely. Apparently, this is one of four regional options that United has introduced. Matthew at Live and Let’s Fly shared earlier today that the other choices are:
- Houston: Grilled Chicken Breast with Mexican Rice, Jalapeño Cheese Velouté, Ranchero Beans, and a Grilled Lime Wedge
- Newark: Seared Beef Tenderloin with Creamy Spinach, Scalloped Potatoes, and Bordelaise Sauce
- San Francisco: Grilled Sweet and Spicy Shrimp with Singapore-style Stir-Fried Noodles, Gai Lan Greens (Chinese Broccoli), and Carrots
Anthony’s Take: It’s nice to see United updating and diversifying its menus. Catering has been one of my biggest issues with the airline and improvements are greatly appreciated.
