United added “Signature Dishes” from its hubs in 2024. I have tasted many of them and it looks like they are now once again rotating in new choices. I’ve shared my reviews of other meals including Los Angeles (here and here), Washington DC (here), Houston (here), Newark (here and here), Denver (here) and Chicago (here, here, and here). Yesterday, while flying from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Tampa International Airport (TPA) I had the opportunity to taste the newest Chicago Signature Dish.

The Chicago Signature Dish – Pan Seared Pierogi is only available if preordered before a flight. It’s described as having a “caramelized onion. cream sauce, bacon lardons, and scallions.” I’m not sure the calorie content here, but this was one tasty plate.

The meal started with snack mix and a beverage choice (ginger ale for me). I like that United and American offer warm nuts or snack mix. Delta’s Biscoff before a meal is odd.

I loved how the pierogi were cooked and the sauce was rich, but not overpowering. This is comfort food and something that I welcome in flight. The tray came with a green salad, a bread roll, and Magnolia Bakery’s Banana Pudding (it’s great to be back to the original flavor as the last two types were way too sweet).

This is delicious. The Red Velvet and Chocolatey Hazelnut Swirl need to stay buried.
Anthony’s Take: I might just have a new top pick for a United domestic First Class meal. This was a hearty and tasty choice. I have criticized United in the past (rightfully) about its catering, but the recent investments are really showing in flight these days.

Um, ick. Why pile all that atop the perogis? Did they have a vegetarian option that did not have the glunky cream sauce and undercooked bacon chunks? And, why serve adults frozen baby food in it?
Glad you enjoyed. I would pass on all except the roll.
