United recently added “Signature Dishes” from its hubs and I have gotten to taste many of them over the past few weeks. I’ve shared my reviews of other recent choices (Los Angeles (here), Washington DC (here), Houston (here), and another Chicago (here). It looks like United is possibly changing some cities around. Chicken Vesuvio was dubbed the “Chicago Signature Dish” and now Meatballs have taken its place. I’m not sure how these showcase the city of Chicago, but they were a solid choice.
The meatballs with creamy polenta, sautéed spinach, and arrabbiata sauce looked delicious in the pre-order menu. These are only available when passengers select them in advance.
The tray that I received included the meatballs (which looked pretty much like the picture), a green salad, a semolina roll, and Magnolia Bakery’s Banana Pudding. Everything was well seasoned and tasty. The roll was warmed. United has stepped up its game a bit and I hope it keeps improving.
This was the third time that I had the Magnolia Bakery treat this week and I still can’t get enough.
Anthony’s Take: No clue how this is representative of the Windy City, but I enjoyed this meal and would choose it again.
