I got to try one of United Airlines‘ newest dishes on my flight between Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Tampa International Airport (TPA) last night. The Beef Melt Sandwich is served with a Giardiniera Mayo and Paprika Roasted Red Potato Wedges.

This meal is available only as a pre-order selection. Other options for those who did not preorder included a Cobb Salad, Tomato and Burrata Manicotti, or Chicken Bordelaise.

This was a good (albeit rather unhealthy) meal. The bread was crispy and the cheese nicely melted. The giardiniera mayo was not as spicy as I would like, but it did add flavor. The potatoes were bland and flavorless. Given how unhealthy the sandwich is, United should offer a side salad. I also enjoyed the apple cake and it’s great that United is serving something that is seasonal (I was so sick of the Pie in the Sky cookies that seemed to be served for years). I would order this meal again and recommend trying it if offered.

Anthony’s Take: It’s nice to see United updating and diversifying its menus. Catering has been one of my biggest issues with the airline and improvements are greatly appreciated.
