If a burger is an option, there is a good chance that I am going to choose it. I’ve recently tried Delta’s Shake Shack collaboration, the Ultimate Cheeseburger that United is serving in its Bistro on Board, and finally this week I got to taste what American is currently serving First Class passengers. While flying between Tampa International Airport (TPA) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), I preordered the Classic American Sliders & Fries. This is only available when selected in advance and I was happy with my choice, overall.

The meal started with warm mixed nuts and a choice of beverage.

The Classic American Sliders & Fries were served with a tasty, cold cauliflower side as well as a dessert (I’m still trying to guess if it was carrot cake, pumpkin cake, or spice cake). The portion was on the smaller side, but everything tasted good. I liked that the burger came with ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise. The fries were surprisingly crispy and I enjoyed the pretzel buns. I just wish the order had three sliders.

Anthony’s Take: American does a good job of mixing up the side dishes so that you’re not always getting a green salad. The sliders were tasty, but Delta still reins supreme with its Shake Shack offering.
