While flying from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Tampa International Airport (TPA) last night. I had the chance to try American’s Chicken Parmesan (the spelling is killing me as I always spell it “parmigiana”). My Italian grandmother would be saying “mamma mia” as this dish tasted straight out of the Olive Garden. This was the only hot entree option and since I switched onto the flight late, my preorder was gone.

The Chicken Parmesan is served with strozzapreti pasta in a light cream/cheese sauce along with some marinated vegetables and a slice of cheesecake.

The meal started with a choice of beverage (ginger ale for me) and warm mixed nuts.

The chicken tasted artificial (like something you would get from a TV dinner). I enjoyed the pasta and it was not overcooked. The veggies were a nice alternative to a salad and kept on the Italian theme. The cheesecake was cloyingly sweet and I only had a bite.

Anthony’s Take: I would not order this meal again. It does it’s job in a pinch, but it tasted cheap. I was also surprised that no bread was served with the meal.

Had this last night flying SRQ-DFW. Had the same thought, this is fine, but I would order anything else if this was on the menu. Better than the chicken beans and plantains but not as good as the protein plate or the chicken enchiladas
