I’ve been flying United Airlines a lot. I’ve almost requalified for Premier 1K® and with all of this flying has come lots of in-flight meals. I’ve pretty much eaten my way through United’s domestic First Class offerings and lately have been working to try what’s being served in Economy Class. I couldn’t do anymore Scrambled Eggs (review here) and wanted something different this morning. I took a quick peek at the Bistro on Board menu and decided that I needed to try the Chicago Bagel Breakfast Melt by Jeff Mauro.
Jeff Mauro is a stand-up guy. He has made a name for himself on The Food Network, but is still humble, approachable, and fun to talk with when I see him out and about at various food events. His name is on this bagel sandwich, so I thought I’d give it a go and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it really tasted.
The Chicago Bagel Breakfast Melt by Jeff Mauro is described as a folded omelette with Honey G™ pepper relish cream cheese, giardiniera-dusted Amy Lu chicken sausage, and fontina cheese on a sesame bagel. It was created exclusively for United Airlines and it costs $11 or 1,300 miles. The flight attendant did not charge me since I was sitting in First Class and 1K®.
The bagel comes wrapped in the paper that it’s heated in. The flight attendant serving First Class gave me the sandwich along with the tray with fruit salad, Chobani yogurt, and a croissant. The bagel was nicely toasted and a little crunchy. The spice was not strong, but tasty and the egg was fluffy. I liked the flavor combination and would order this again in the future.
Anthony’s Take: I enjoyed this breakfast option. It was hearty and did not taste overly processed. I would definitely order it again when flying United.
