Today, I flew from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Tampa International Airport (TPA). The flight was technically at a meal time, but much earlier than I usually eat. Luckily, United has one of my favorite not-quite-a-meal options available for pre-order. The Cheese Plate is a great snack and quite filling if you finish the tray.
The Cheese Plate is another option that is only available when ordered in advance. It comes with cheddar cheese, blue cheese, brie, caramelized pecans, Marcona almonds, beef salami, and grapes. It was also supposed to have marinated olives (which it thankfully did not since I hate them). I’ve reviewed the Cheese Plate before (here and here). Each time it’s a little different and it never totally matched the description.
The tray came with a warmed semolina roll, a green salad, and Magnolia Bakery’s Red Velvet Banana Pudding for dessert. I knew this was coming in the next rotation and I got to try this for the first time today.
The Cheese Plate was great except for the grapes. Several were rotten and I stopped eating them after a few.
As mentioned, Magnolia Bakery’s Red Velvet Banana Pudding was for dessert. It’s a bit sweeter than the original flavor and in my opinion does not taste like red velvet. It has an oddly berry/chocolate flavor. I’m hoping that this rotation is short lived.
Anthony’s Take: The Cheese Plate was great minus the grapes. The dessert is what it is and is still a marked improvement over the cake slices or Pie in the Sky that had been served forever. With the Cheese Plate, you never know what you’ll get as it is always slightly different but worth the try.
