TAP Air Portugal announced last week that it will move its operations to the upcoming Terminal 6 at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). It is the 16th carrier to sign on. It joins most Star Alliance airlines, Aer Lingus, Condor, Cathay Pacific, SAS, JetBlue, Condor, Kuwait Airways, and other international carriers that have made plans to inhabit the new space when it opens in 2026.

Terminal 6 is a key element of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). This includes two new terminals, two expanded and modernized terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a simplified roadway. TAP has served the New York market for more than 50 years and it currently flies daily direct flights from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS).
The new Terminal 6 will offer a digital-first, boutique guest experience that provides less than five-minute average walks from the TSA security checkpoint to all of the terminal’s gates,100,000 square feet of NYC-inspired shopping, dining, lounges, and amenities. The project is being managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFK Millennium Partners.
Steve Thody, CEO of JFK Millennium Partners, said:
TAP Air Portugal’s decision to join our T6 family reinforces our vision to create a world-class gateway that connects people and cultures across the globe. TAP’s long-standing roots in the New York market have strengthened connectivity between the US and Europe and align perfectly with our goal to deliver an innovative and welcoming T6 guest experience.”
Anthony’s Take: The new Terminal 6 at New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) looks great. I have been largely avoiding JFK as the construction and resulting traffic is horrendous, but once complete this looks like a good option for international trips.
