In December, I wrote about TAP Air Portugal adding three new routes to the United States this summer. These include new flights to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Los Angeles is an entirely new city for TAP and its eighth US destination.

TAP is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. Its first flights to the United States date back to 1969. With these additions, TAP will serve the following US cities:

  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
  • Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD)
  • Miami International Airport (MIA)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
  • New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
  • Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

Two of the new routes launch this week and one is coming up in June:

  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to/from Porto’s Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) (4x weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays; runs from May 14th through October 25th)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to/from Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) (3x weekly on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays; starts on May 16th and runs through October 25th)
  • San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to/from Lajes Airport (TER) in the Azores (1x weekly on Tuesdays; runs from June 3rd through August 26th)

Carlos Antunes, TAP’s Director for the Americas, said:

It’s so exciting to continue to see TAP grow and attract new North American travelers with these three new routes. And, of course, all our routes include our popular Portugal Stopover program where you can enjoy up to 10 days in Portugal enroute to any of our destinations in Europe, or on the way home, for no additional airfare.”

Anthony’s Take: I’ve flown TAP Air Portugal many times. I enjoy the service and the Business Class seats on its newest aircraft. TAP often offers great fares across the Atlantic. Lisbon and Porto are both great cities and even better when booked as a stopover to explore more of Europe.
