SWISS announced today that it’s making big investments to its onboard service. When airlines spend money on making the flight more enjoyable, those improvements generally hit the First and Business Class cabins. Not in this case, however, as SWISS is bringing new bedding, headphones, snacks, and even a welcome aperitif to its Economy and Premium Economy Cabins.
Beginning on March 5th, passengers traveling in Economy and Premium Economy on SWISS long-haul flights will enjoy upgraded amenities. The airline is dubbing the experience “SWISS Senses” and it promises a revamped long-haul experience including new service features and a redesigned cabin interior. This will start with expanded inflight food and beverage offerings, new bedding items, and a new signature fragrance.”
Once a flight has reached cruising altitude, SWISS Economy and Premium Economy passengers will be served a welcome aperitif with a Sbrinz cheese appetizer. New menus have been designed and these include a pre-landing meal, which has also been upgraded to be served on a tray or in a reusable bento box. Other culinary improvements include an extended range of snacks and a broader selection of beverages that include a new Swiss red wine and typical Swiss soft drinks such as Rivella.
In addition to food and drinks, a new signature fragrance of the Alpine Valley has been created specifically for SWISS in collaboration with the Zurich-based Soeder company. It will be available in the lavatories in soap, hand lotion, and a facial spray. New bedding with soft pillows and blankets that are made entirely of recycled materials as well as enhanced headphones will also be offered.
SWISS Chief Commercial Officer, Heike Birlenbach, said:
These new product and service highlights will tangibly enhance the air travel experience for our Economy Class and our Premium Economy Class guests. Taken together, they represent one of the biggest service investments in the history of our company. And they bring us a further step forward in providing our customers with a quality air travel experience that is hallmarked by both Swissness and a devotion to detail, to help ensure that we consistently achieve our high premium aspirations.”
In the future, “SWISS Senses” will extend to new seats and new cabin interiors across SWISS’ fleet.
Anthony’s Take: It’s great to see the entire plane get some love. These touches will make the experience more pleasant when not traveling in First or Business Class.

Wait, what? An enhancement that’s actually an enhancement? Nicely done.
