Lufthansa has been serving its signature Avionic cocktail for some time (I tried it on a flight last year). Now, SWISS is bringing it own first-ever cocktail aboard long-haul flights in Business and First Class starting this July. The SWISS Alpine Essence pays homage to a White Negroni and offers a light and floral beverage for the summer.
The signature cocktail was developed by the airline in collaboration with top bartender Sarah Madritsch, who has won awards including “Barkeeper of the Year” and was the manager at Zurich’s IGNIV by Andreas Caminada Bar, which is known for its innovative drinks. The new SWISS signature cocktail blends dry white vermouth and elderflower syrup with crème de menthe, white crème de cacao, citrus, and herbal notes. The resulting concoction is similar to a White Negroni.
Sarah Madritsch, the unique new cocktail’s creator, said:
We wanted to offer SWISS travelers a genuine taste experience that combines lightness with all the freshness of the Alps – just as can be sensed and felt outdoors in Switzerland’s natural landscape. I’m proud of the result. And it’s very special to know that our creation will soon be flying as the first-ever SWISS cocktail all over the globe.”
SWISS Chief Commercial Officer, Heike Birlenbach, added:
With our new SWISS Alpine Essence we’re bringing our first-ever signature cocktail aboard. It’s another key element in the various initiatives that we’re taking this year to further refine our guests’ air travel experience – all of which are hallmarked by strong Swiss credentials and a keen devotion to detail.”
The SWISS Alpine Essence will be offered in First and Business Class on SWISS long-haul flights and added to the SWISS Saveurs inflight food and beverage menu later this year to enable Economy Class travelers to enjoy this exclusive SWISS creation on short- and medium-haul flights.
Anthony’s Take: The cocktail sounds perfect for summer. I always love when airlines offer signature cocktails and mocktails as it adds a nice touch to the experience.
