I’m not a fan of Subway and find the food pretty disgusting, but I have to give them props for this activation. The sandwich chain is giving fans a chance to step into the world of Happy Gilmore 2 with a brand-new immersive pop-up event in Santa Monica. In collaboration with Netflix, it’s transforming its Santa Monica location at 1801 West Pico Boulevard into “Subway’s Happy Place” (a real-life version of Happy Gilmore’s iconic dream world) for one day on August 8th.
The pop up will run from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM PST and will offer fans a surreal mini-golf experience inspired by the film’s most unforgettable moments, interactive photo ops, props from Happy Gilmore 2, cast appearances, and more for free. The centerpiece of the pop-up? A fully operational Subway restaurant surrounded by whimsical flower beds and manicured hedges.
The Happy Place pop-up is more than just a themed restaurant. It’s a mini amusement park for film lovers and Subway fans alike. Visitors can:
- Play through a themed mini-golf course based on key scenes from the Netflix movie
- Snap pics with iconic props and immersive set pieces from Happy Gilmore 2
- Enjoy a drink in Subway’s very own country club-style beer garden (complete with ice-cold beer on tap)
- Meet surprise guests and cast members from the film
Admission is free, but Subway encourages visitors to reserve a spot in advance at here to avoid long wait times.
Anthony’s Take: I loved the original Happy Gilmore and I have heard from friends that the sequel is hilarious. I look forward to watching the film. If you’re a fan (local to Santa Monica) and can stomach Subway, it might be worth checking out this pop-up experience.
