Marriott plans to introduce the St. Regis brand to New Zealand for the first time with the opening of the St. Regis Queenstown. It’s currently set to open in late 2027.
The 145-room property will be located in central Queenstown and is expected to offer great views of the Remarkables mountain range and Lake Wakatipu. The development is set to bring a new level of international luxury hospitality to one of New Zealand’s most popular tourism destinations. It will feature several signature St. Regis brand elements, including the St. Regis Bar, the Drawing Room, and an all-day dining venue that will be announced closer to the opening date. Guests will also have access to a full-service spa and a 24-hour fitness center. In keeping with the brand’s hallmark service style, the hotel will also provide the signature St. Regis butler service for guests.
Queenstown is known for its dramatic alpine scenery and outdoor adventure experiences, but the city currently has relatively few large-scale international luxury hotels. Boutique properties such as The Carlin Hotel and Eichardt’s Private Hotel have built strong reputations, while Rosewood Matakauri operates a luxury lodge outside the city. Within the city itself, Sofitel currently represents one of the few major global luxury brands.
The addition of the St. Regis Queenstown is expected to significantly elevate the region’s luxury hospitality offerings and strengthen Queenstown’s position as a high-end global travel destination.
Richard Crawford, Marriott’s VP of Hotel Development of Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific, said:
We’re thrilled to soon establish the iconic St Regis brand in such an exceptional destination. Founded on New York’s 5th Avenue more than 120 years ago, St Regis is a globally revered name in luxury that is sought after by discerning travelers worldwide. Queenstown attracts more than two million visitors annually, making it ideal for a world-class luxury hotel. The St Regis Queenstown is set to be undeniably the destination’s finest hotel offering and will further elevate Queenstown’s status as a must-visit destination.”
Anthony’s Take: I love the St. Regis brand and am always happy to see it grow and add new locations. New Zealand is another spot that I have never been. I’ve made it to Australia, but need to check out its neighbor.
