Spirit Airlines flight NK445 didn’t make it too far yesterday when a mechanical issue occurred and forced the Airbus A320neo to evacuate its passengers onto the taxiway. The flight from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) ended up taking off later with passengers experiencing an almost 12-hour delay.

NK445 Flight Status

Shortly after the aircraft pushed back from the gate, the pilots declared that there was a mechanical issue and that the plane needed to be evacuated. Passengers left the aircraft via stairs onto the taxiway and were bussed back to the terminal out of “an abundance of caution” according to a statement from Spirit. The aircraft is being inspected and no injuries have been reported.

Anthony’s Take: I wonder what the mechanical issue was that caused the captain to evacuate the plane rather than bring it back to the gate. Thankfully, all are safe and made it to Columbus albeit very late.
