Last month, I wrote about Spirit Airlines adding flights between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Grand Cayman’s Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM). The first of the 3x weekly flights (on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays) take off today.

The new route reinforces Spirit’s position as the leading carrier for nonstop service to the Caribbean and Latin America from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). With this addition, Spirit now offers service to 24 international destinations from its South Florida gateway (more than any other airline at the airport).

In addition to travelers originating in South Florida, passengers from nearly two dozen US cities can now reach the Cayman Islands through convenient one-stop connections at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL). These cities include major markets such as Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), and New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA).

To celebrate the launch, Spirit is offering a special promotion for members of its Free Spirit loyalty program. Eligible travelers can earn:

  • 1,500 bonus points on roundtrip flights to or from Grand Cayman
  • 750 bonus points on one-way flights

Bookings must be completed by December 11th, with travel completed by January 4th.

Andrea Lusso, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines, said:

Grand Cayman’s natural beauty and world-class hospitality make it a great addition to our route map, and we’re excited to bring our affordable fares and elevated Guest experience to one of the Caribbean’s most iconic island destinations. We’re proud to add yet another destination from Fort Lauderdale and give our Guests a new, high-value way to discover this tropical paradise.”

Anthony’s Take: Grand Cayman is a gorgeous spot for a beach vacation. We’ve enjoyed Seven Mile Beach and swimming with the stingrays several times. If you’re looking for a winter escape, this might be one to consider.
