Back in March, I wrote about how Spirit Airlines was adding a new destination to its route network. Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) began flights today to/from three cities on the East Coast. This is the latest city Spirit has added and further strengthens its route map.
Service to the following cities will now be available to/from Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) :
- Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) (3x weekly; starts tomorrow, June 6th)
- Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) (4x weekly; started today, June 5th)
- Orlando International Airport (MCO) (3x weekly; started today, June 5th)
John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines, said:
Spirit’s arrival in Columbia brings South Carolina travelers easy access to some of the top destinations on the East Coast at an unmatched value. We can’t wait to welcome our Columbia Guests onboard and make it easier for travelers to visit South Carolina’s capital city.”
Kim Crafton, Vice President of Marketing & Air Service Development at Columbia Metropolitan Airport, added:
We are thrilled to now be able to offer the local community a cost-effective flying option in Spirit Airlines. Increasing air service to a community can be a long process, as our airport like many others across the nation are competing for the same service. I’m thankful our team was able to secure Spirit Airlines and I’m thankful Spirit Airlines sees a great opportunity for a successful partnership for the airport and the Midlands region.”
To celebrate the newest city, Spirit is running a bonus mile promo. Members can earn 1,500 bonus points on roundtrip flights and 750 bonus points on one-way flights to and from Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) . Travel must be booked by June 10th and flown by July 9th.
Spirit first began serving South Carolina at Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) more than 25 years ago. It added Charleston International Airport (CHS) in 2023.
Anthony’s Take: Spirit is continuing to add new routes. It’s interesting to see the continued demand for Florida as well as Spirit further encroaching on United’s NYC-area hub.
