Spirit Airlines announced today that it will launch nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Key West International Airport (EYW). This new route will provide Florida travelers a faster way to get from Las Olas Boulevard to Duval Street without having to deal with the Overseas Highway (I’ve driven it before and traffic is a real pain).
Seasonal flights will run 4x weekly beginning on November 6th and running through December 18th. With this latest addition, Key West International Airport (EYW) becomes Spirit’s eighth destination in Florida. Others include:
- Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) (FLL)
- Fort Myers’ Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW)
- Miami International Airport (MIA)
- Orlando International Airport (MCO)
- Palm Beach International Airport (PBI)
- Pensacola International Airport (PNS)
- Tampa International Airport (TPA)
The new route also provides easy one-stop connections to major cities across the United States. This new route is currently on sale starting at $79 one way.
John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines, said:
Key West is a one-of-a-kind beach destination, and now travelers can easily access this island paradise and enjoy Spirit’s elevated Guest experience along the way. Our new service offers a convenient and affordable alternative to driving and gives our Guests in the Florida Keys a new way to coast through South Florida in style.”
Spirit has done a lot to evolve over the past year. Key West Guests can choose from three travel options, including:
- Spirit First: The formerBig Front Seats® include a carry-on and first checked bag, no change or cancel fees, priority check-in and boarding, reserved overhead bin space, complimentary snacks and drinks (including alcoholic beverages), and free Wi-Fi.
- Premium Economy: This allows Guests to stretch out with more space in a Premium Seat with extra legroom or a blocked middle seat. It includes one carry-on bag, no change or cancel fees, priority boarding, and reserved overhead bin space.
- Value: Spirit’s base fare offers seat selection, one carry-on bag, checked bags, and other options as add-ons.
Anthony’s Take: It has been many years since I have been to Key West. I’d love to go back. I was set to in June when Breeze Airways launched service from Tampa International Airport (TPA), but my plans changed. It’s great to see more service to the Southernmost City in the United States.

Initially I thought this was an impressively stupid move but upon reflection if Spirit sells connections on the same ticket it’s a prudent decision to utilize the FLL hub this way.
