Spirit Airlines flight NK951 from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) was struck by bullets as it flew over Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The Airbus A320neo managed to safely land at Cibao International Airport (STI) in Santiago (Dominican Republic), but bullets hit the walls, overhead bins, and even grazed one flight attendant.

The video above shows some of the aftermath of the shooting. The text translated from French reads:

The company plane @SpiritAirlines was indeed hit by bullets this morning in the sky over Port-au-Prince. The plane finally landed in Santiago, Dominican Republic. In a video made by members of the crew, you can clearly see the bullet holes. This incident could once again encourage airlines to avoid Haitian airspace as was the case last March.”

Haiti has been unstable for some time and now it looks like most airlines (American and JetBlue have paused) will avoid flying through Haitian airspace in the near future according to aviation watchdog, @JonNYC via X.

Anthony’s Take: This had to be scary. The aircraft was able to land in Santiago and hopefully the flight attendant recovers quickly.
