Spirit Airlines announced today (here and here) that it’s adding two new Southern cities to its route network. Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA) and Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) will each see a trio of flights launching this June.
Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA) and Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) will both see flights starting to/from the following cities between June 4th and 6th:
- Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) (3x weekly; starts on June 5th and 6th)
- Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) (4x weekly; starts on June 4th and 5th)
- Orlando International Airport (MCO) (3x to 4x weekly; starts on June 4th and 5th)
Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport (CHA) will be the third airport served in Tennessee. Spirit flies to Memphis International Airport (MEM) (since 2022) and Nashville International Airport (BNA) (since 2019).
Spirit first began serving South Carolina at Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) more than 25 years ago. It added Charleston International Airport (CHS) in 2023.
John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines, said:
We’re excited to expand our Tennessee network and welcome our CHA Guests onboard as we launch three new nonstop routes, just in time for a fun summer vacation. Chattanooga is known as the Scenic City for good reason, and travelers from major East Coast cities can discover a new destination with southern charm, breathtaking views and endless outdoor activities.
We’re [also] excited to kick off our Columbia service just in time for summer and deliver a great value to visit some of the most popular leisure destinations along the East Coast. Travelers from South Carolina’s capital city will soon enjoy convenient nonstop options and Spirit’s recently transformed experience on their way to various destinations with beaches, theme parks and big city attractions.”
Spirit Airlines just emerged from bankruptcy protection and it’s great to see the airline continuing to add routes. As with every new route it launches, Spirit is offering sale fares for these cities. More information can be found on Spirit.com.
Anthony’s Take: Spirit is continuing to add new routes. It’s interesting to see the continued demand for Florida as well as Spirit further encroaching on United’s NYC-area hub.
