Airlines are constantly tweaking their schedules and route networks based upon demand, airport slots, aircraft availability, and more. Spirit Airlines just made some changes to its schedule with the addition of four routes and three that got the chop.

Baltimore

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)

Spirit is adding two new routes out of Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI). The low-cost carrier currently flies nonstop to 18 destinations from here. New routes include daily flights to Charleston International Airport (CHS) and Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) beginning on August 14th. Other routes currently flown from Baltimore include:

  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS)
  • Cancún International Airport (CUN)
  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
  • Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW)
  • Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
  • Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
  • Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
  • Miami International Airport (MIA)
  • Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR)
  • Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY)
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO)
  • Portland International Airport (PDX)
  • Sacramento International Airport (SMF)
  • San Diego International Airport (SAN)
  • San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU)
  • Tampa International Airport (TPA)

Flights to San Diego International Airport (SAN) is ceasing for the season as it was a seasonal route.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport

One of my home airports is gaining one route and losing another. Flights to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) will operate daily with the first flight taking off on August 14th. Service to Portland International Airport (PDX)  is ending for the season, but should return next year.

Other Changes

Spirit will add 5x weekly flights between Nashville International Airport (BNA) and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY). These start on September 5th. Seasonal flights between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) are getting the axe.

Anthony’s Take: Some minor tweaks here and more will come in the future. I enjoy flying Spirit and will always keep tabs on what it’s adding and taking away.
