Spirit Airlines began flying between Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) on October 10th. The low-cost carrier now flies to 34 states, plus Washington DC, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and 20 other countries.

Daily, nonstop service between Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) began on October 10th. Passengers looking to fly this route in the near future have the opportunity to earn 1,500 bonus points on roundtrip flights and 750 bonus points on one-way flights.

John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines, said:

The launch of our inaugural service in Alabama is a game-changing opportunity for Birmingham travelers looking for low-fare, nonstop flights to South Florida. Our Magic City Guests will enjoy Spirit’s newly enhanced experience on their journey to the famous beaches of Fort Lauderdale, with new travel options ranging from our economical Go and Go Savvy to our premium Go Comfy and Go Big.”

Spirit has been adding and cutting lots of routes as it balances delayed aircraft deliveries and working towards a profitable operation.

Anthony’s Take: Spirit now flies to 34 states. I’m not sure I’ll be headed to Alabama, but it’s great to see Spirit continue to expand.
