Southwest Airlines extended its schedule through April 7th. With this update, the airline is adding six new routes (including a few international ones) and cutting five others.

Austin

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS)

Texas’ capitol city will see two new routes added by Southwest in March. These include:

  • Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) (5x weekly; starts on March 6th)
  • Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) (3x weekly; starts on March 6th)

Nashville

Nashville International Airport (BNA)

Southwest is the largest airline at Nashville International Airport (BNA). The carrier is adding three new routes in the spring, including the following:

  • Indianapolis International Airport (IND) (daily; starts on March 6th)
  • Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) (1x weekly on Saturdays; starts on March 8th)
  • Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) (1x weekly on Saturdays; starts on March 8th)

Southwest is also adding flights between Sacramento International Airport (SMF) and Tucson International Airport (TUS) on March 6th. These flights will operate on Saturdays and Sundays.

Route Cuts

Along with the six routes being added to Southwest’s network, the airline is cutting the following five routes:

  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) to/from Palm Beach International Airport (PBI)
  • Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to/from Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY)
  • Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to/from San Antonio International Airport (SAT)
  • Long Beach Airport (LGB) to/from Kansas City International Airport (MCI)
  • New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) to/from Tampa International Airport (TPA)

The Atlanta/Palm Beach route has been running since 2013; New York/Tampa flights have been on the schedule since 2017, The other routes were launched in 2023 and 2024. Southwest is quickly cutting them based on performance.

Jennifer Bridie, Vice President of Marketing at Southwest Airlines, said:

With kids returning to school across the country, there’s no better time for parents to show off their Big Flex and book an incredible spring break trip. Thanks to our world-renowned flexibility, two free checked bags, and a schedule that flexes with travelers’ demands, Customers can book their flights today and secure their spring getaway.”

Anthony’s Take: Southwest made some nominal adjustments to its schedule here. It’s interesting to note that the Caribbean destinations start for Spring Break and not the winter season.
