Avelo Airlines abandoned the West Coast this past summer. Among the airports cut was Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (STS). Southwest Airlines is now picking up two of the routes that got the axe along with two others from this California airport.
New routes will begin on April 7th and include flights to/from Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (STS). These include:
- Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) (5x weekly)
- Denver International Airport (DEN) (1x weekly)
- Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) (daily)
- San Diego International Airport (SAN) (1x to 2x daily)
Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (STS) is adorned with the beloved cartoon characters from Peanuts. It will be the 14th city in Southwest’s California route map.
Andrew Watterson, Chief Operating Officer at Southwest Airlines, said:
We aren’t slowing down in our pursuit to provide Customers with more options than ever before. Adding Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport to our route map provides more access to California’s famed Wine Country for our Customers and further solidifies our years-long commitment to California.”
Southwest offers (without regional carriers) more intra-California flights than any other airline. It also leads in available seats, daily departures, and the most passengers in the Golden State.
Anthony’s Take: Breeze Airways has added some routes and now Southwest is adding more. Avelo leaving California created an opportunity for these carriers to fill the void.
