Peet’s Coffee® will soon become the official coffee provider across Southwest Airlines’ fleet. Beginning August 13th, Southwest passengers will be able to enjoy Peet’s signature coffee at cruising altitude. This marks Peet’s first-ever partnership with a major US airline for inflight service.
The inflight menu will debut with Off the Grid™, which is a medium roast blend featuring “fruit-forward notes of Colombian beans with the caramelized sweetness from El Salvador.” The collaboration is a natural extension of Peet’s growing presence in airports. Peet’s cafes and products are already available in 25 US airports served by Southwest, including key hubs like Denver International Airport (DEN), Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport (HOU), and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).
Eric Lauterbach, President & CEO of Peet’s Coffee, said:
This is a defining moment for Peet’s. To be part of every Southwest flight means more than expanding our reach – it’s about creating memorable coffee moments in the skies. This partnership introduces the Peet’s experience to millions of new consumers as part of their daily ritual in a way that’s personal and meaningful. Most importantly, it brings the rich, bold flavor of Peet’s wherever their journey takes them.”
Tony Roach, Executive Vice President of Customer & Brand at Southwest Airlines, added:
We are enhancing our inflight experience to better serve our Customers. A great cup of coffee goes a long way in creating a comfortable and enjoyable flight —and it’s just one part of our broader effort to elevate our Customers’ journey with us.”
To celebrate the launch, Peet’s and Southwest will host a co-branded immersive event on August 15th and 16th at Peet’s East 8th Street location in Chicago. The event coincides with Chicago’s famed Air and Water Show and will feature product sampling and interactive experiences. Guests can enjoy a cup of Off the Grid™ while learning about the journey from bean to brew.
It’s good to be able to report some good news around Southwest Airlines. The carrier has been trying to adapt and with that has come the end of free bags for everyone and assigned seating (which many are saying is very expensive).
Anthony’s Take: Airlines partnering with coffee companies is nothing new. American serves Java City, Delta offers Starbucks, JetBlue serves Dunkin’, Alaska brews Stumptown, and United offers Illy. I guess Southwest flyers can consider this a small win.
