Southwest Airlines has expanded its Hawaiian network with new nonstop flights linking Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) with Hilo International Airport (ITO) on Hawaii Island beginning August 6th. The new route brings the Ninth Island (a nickname for Las Vegas based on its Hawaiian population) directly to Hilo Town for the first time ever.

The new flights will operate 3x weekly on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. These flights complement Southwest’s interisland schedule, which includes 5x daily flights between Hilo International Airport (ITO) and Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL). From there, passengers can connect throughout Hawaii and other cities in the United States.

Southwest’s presence at Hilo International Airport (ITO) dates back to January 19, 2020, when the carrier first launched interisland service. Since then, Southwest has continued to expand its footprint in the Aloha State, supported local communities and employees, and has embraced the spirit of aloha that has shaped its Hawaii operations.

The airline offers nearly 60 interisland flights daily and close to 90 total Hawaii-related flights each day. The new Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) to/from Hilo International Airport (ITO) route adds to Southwest’s growing list of mainland gateways serving Hawaii, which will expand even further in Summer 2026 with additional service planned from Ontario International Airport (ONT) and Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR).

Andrew Watterson, Southwest Airlines Chief Operating Officer, said:

You have supported Southwest from well before our first flight to Hawaii. We’re grateful, and we’re bringing you more, including more choice to experience our award-winning hospitality with assigned seating on all flights beginning January 27th. All of our aircraft in Hawaii offer enhancements that show where Southwest is going—in-seat power, improved space for carryon bags, rows of seats that offer extra legroom, with even more enhancements to come. Mahalo for valuing our relationship and the journey, as Hawaii People do.”

Anthony’s Take: The introduction of this nonstop connection will provide travelers with more choice, value, and convenience. It further strengthens Southwest’s role as a key carrier linking Hawaii to the US mainland.
