A poster on Reddit unlocked a new hotel room fear. The man reports that he found a “thing [that scratched] the crap out of [him].” Commenters identified it as a disposable insulin pen needle cap and I now have something to look for between the sheets.
What is this? The metal end was sticking through the bed sheet of a hotel I’m staying in and scratched the crap out of me.

The man climbed into bed and realized something was scratching him. That’s when he realized it was a needle (although he was unsure what type). A nurse commented on the post and told the poster that his chances of contracting anything were “pretty slim.” The AMA Journal of Ethics suggests that anyone who gets pricked by a used needle should immediately clean the area with soap and water and seek medical attention. HIV, HBV, and HCV are all possible to transmit through used, infected needles.
Luckily, the man added a comment to say that he’s fine. He added: “My in-laws and sister are doctors so I’ve been in touch with them about this as well.”
Anthony’s Take: I would definitely be freaked out if I found a needle in my bed. I’m a bit of a germaphobe at times and this would not have done my psyche well.
