SAS is continuing to grow and expand. Last week, I wrote about its big plans for more lounges across Europe. Today, the Scandinavian airline announced nine new routes (including six new destinations) across Europe and Asia. This expansion cements Copenhagen’s role as Scandinavia’s premier global hub and reflects SAS’ long-term commitment to linking Scandinavia with the world.
The summer 2026 schedule marks one of the most comprehensive expansions in SAS’ history, delivering:
- 20% increase in seat capacity from Copenhagen Airport (CPH).
- 50% more connecting opportunities for global travelers.
- The largest destination network ever offered in a single SAS summer season.
This growth is designed to balance business and leisure travel, combining high-frequency routes for corporate flyers with vacation destinations, and give passengers more flexibility, convenience, and smoother connections than ever before. New routes include:
- Copenhagen Airport (CPH) to/from Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport (BOD) (2x weekly; starts on May 15th)
- Copenhagen Airport (CPH) to/from Istanbul Airport (IST) (1x daily; starts on March 26th)
- Copenhagen Airport (CPH) to/from Luxembourg Airport (LUX) (2x daily; starts on March 9th)
- Copenhagen Airport (CPH) to/from Marseille Provence Airport (MRS) (2x weekly; starts on June 22nd)
- Copenhagen Airport (CPH) to/from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) (5x weekly; starts on June 2nd)
- Copenhagen Airport (CPH) to/from Riga Airport (RIX) (3x daily; starts on March 8th)
- Copenhagen Airport (CPH) to/from Visby Airport (VBY) (3x weekly; starts on June 22nd)
- Oslo Airport (OSL) to/from Hamburg Airport (HAM) (2x weekly; starts on March 30th)
- Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) to/from Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) (2x weekly; starts on March 29th)
Anko van der Werff, President & CEO of SAS, said:
We are excited to present our largest summer program in SAS’ history, which reflects the strong momentum we’re having as a company. With two more Airbus A350’s, more destinations and better connectivity than ever before, we’re offering our customers an unmatched level of choice and flexibility. This expansion underscores our ambition to grow, to further strengthen Copenhagen as Scandinavia’s global hub, and to provide our customers with reliable, world class punctual travel on a broader scale.”
SAS’ confidence in its summer 2026 expansion is backed by its stellar operational performance. Over the past year, SAS has been ranked as the most punctual airline in both Europe and worldwide across multiple months. Additionally, seasonal favorite routes that were previously limited to peak months will now operate throughout the entire summer season. These include three flights between Copenhagen Airport (CPH) and Ålesund Airport (AES), Edinburgh Airport (EDI), and Thessaloniki Airport (SKG).
SAS is also increasing flight frequencies on more than 30 existing routes, delivering better travel options and reduced connection times. Copenhagen Airport (CPH) will see expanded service on 25+ routes. Oslo Airport (OSL) will see boosted frequencies to Brussels Airport (BRU), Dublin Airport (DUB), and Keflavík Airport (KEF). Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) will offer additional flights to Brussels Airport (BRU), Dublin Airport (DUB), Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), and Vaasa Airport (VAA).
This enhanced network gives passengers greater flexibility, whether traveling within Europe or connecting to long-haul destinations in North America and Asia. Tickets go on sale on September 22nd for all routes.
Anthony’s Take: SAS has been making lots of great moves. Intra-Europe Business Class returns on October 1st and its SkyTeam membership is in full swing. It’s exciting to see all of the growth.
