Targeted World of Hyatt® members should see emails popping up in their inboxes and offering complimentary American Airlines AAdvantage® status. I received an email today and now have American AAdvantage Platinum Pro® status through December 5th. I need to earn Loyalty Points between now and then in order to maintain this status and I think I might go for it.

AA Instant Pass

The status granted begins immediately and I have 122 days to earn 42,000 Loyalty Points in order to keep it through April 5th.

AA Status

During that time, I’ll need to earn 42,000 more Loyalty Points to retain it for four more months.

Benefits of Platinum Pro® status include:

  • Complimentary upgrades on American and Alaska Airlines
  • 72-hour upgrade window
  • 80% status mileage bonus
  • Complimentary Main Cabin Extra and Preferred Seats
  • 3 free checked bags on American

I buy Business and First Class seats (and coincidentally have several American flights coming up), so I see the bonus miles as the big draw here. It also includes oneworld® Emerald℠ status, which grants access to lounges around the world.

AA Status Levels

Platinum Pro® normally requires 125,000 Loyalty Points in order to earn the status. Here are all of the details for the Instant Status Pass™ promotion:

  • Register by September 4th
  • You then receive Platinum Pro® status for a period of four months (this will be reflected in your account almost instantly)
  • You can then maintain AAdvantage Gold®, Platinum®, Platinum Pro®, or Executive Platinum® status based on how many Loyalty Points you earn during the promo period
  • Status can be extended by another four months by earning more Loyalty points
  • If you meet the Loyalty Points threshold for three consecutive four-month periods, you will earn that status level for the next year

Anthony’s Take: I have not had great experiences with American in the past, but I’m going to see where this promo take me. I have already locked in Premier 1K® and am almost done with Delta Platinum Medallion requalification. Check your email to see if you have been targeted.
