Alaska Airline long held the title of Seattle’s hometown airline. Delta Air Lines swept in a few years ago and built out its hub there. The Atlanta-based carrier continues to grow and looks to curry favor with Washington State residents with promotions like the one it just launched.
Delta began a partnership with the Seattle Seahawks (football team) in 2016 where it offered a special Delta 12Status. It’s back again for the 2023-2024 NFL season, which begins on September 9th. Registration is open here for Washington residents 18 years or older.
What Are the Benefits of Delta 12Status?
- Registered members earn one Delta SkyMile® for every yard the Seahawks throw on the field at both home and away games during the 2023-2024 NFL Season.
- 12Status members will receive Main Cabin 1 boarding for all departures from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) beginning on September 10th (through the end of the Seahawks 2023-2024 season).
- A 12% discount at Seahawks Pro Shop stores on the 12th of each month during the Seahawks season.
You might be wondering why all of the 12’s here. Wikipedia has the answer:
The 12th man or 12th player is a collective term for fans of sports teams in many eleven-a-side games, in particular Association football or American football. As most football leagues allow a maximum of eleven players per team on the playing field at a time, referring to a team’s fans as the 12th man implies that they have a potentially helpful and significant role in the game.”
How Many Miles Will Members Earn?
The Seahawks have around 4,000 passing yards every season. This means that registered members would earn around 4,000 free SkyMiles® if this season’s results are in line. One Mile at a Time reported that “since the program was launched in 2016, Delta has given away over 961 million miles. Delta SkyMiles® is more or less revenue based, so at the rate of one cent per mile, that’s like $9.61 million worth of miles.”
Anthony’s Take: I’m not a football fan, but the beauty of this promo is that if you’re eligible you don’t have to be a fan either. Register and you’ll automatically receive the miles based on the earnings above.
