A suspected cyberattack wrought havoc at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) yesterday. The Port of Seattle confirmed that multiple systems were taken offline without a timeline for restoration. This has now dragged into today’s operations.

The incident began yesterday morning with what (at the time) was called an outage. By the afternoon, systems were still down and passengers were advised to check with the airlines for details around their flight’s operation.

By 5:00 PM, 247 flights had been delayed and six were canceled, according to FlightAware. It’s unclear of the full impact of the outages. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is a hub for both Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines, but both claimed to maintain fairly normal operations despite the systems issues.

This might just be PR as passengers reported lengthy lines, paper boarding passes, and manual boarding processes.

The exact cause has yet to be released with some claiming cyberattack and others blaming the incident on an electrical issue. Regardless, this has now trickled into Sunday and is still having an impact.

Anthony’s Take: Cyberattacks and system outages can make a mess of travel plans. If you’re flying to/from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) today, be prepared for delays and check with your carrier for flight details.
