Porter Airlines is continuing its growth in the United States and Canada with the addition of flights to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), a shift from Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), and a new route between Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and Deer Lake Regional Airport (YDF).
The latest expansion includes a brand-new destination for Porter: Austin, Texas. While the change of Chicago airports allows for tons of additional connections across the United States and globally (this is great given how close the airline has become with American). Year-round flights between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) will start on May 21st. The new Austin service marks another step in Porter’s strategy of connecting key North American cities while offering travelers a premium economy-style experience.

Beginning September 1st, service from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) will move from Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD). Porter has served Chicago from the airport since 2008 and the move comes alongside the opening of a new US Customs and Border Protection pre-clearance facility at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ). It’s expected to begin operating in the coming weeks.
In Canada, Porter is introducing new seasonal service between Ottawa International Airport (YOW) and Deer Lake Regional Airport (YDF) (beginning June 10th). This route will complement Porter’s existing Deer Lake flights from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ).
Porter continues to emphasize its onboard service, offering passengers no middle seats, complimentary wine and beer served in glassware, and premium snacks. Flights operated with the Embraer E195-E2 aircraft also feature free Wi-Fi for all passengers.
Anthony’s Take: With Austin joining the map and Chicago service shifting airports, Porter is further positioning itself as a growing competitor in the North American travel market. I’m still waiting for it to join oneworld®.

Oneworld incoming *hopefully
To join OW, doesn’t Porter have to offer a business class product or is their ‘Reserve’ sufficient enough? Also what about lounges?
