A man stole a pickup truck and led police on a chase across the airfield and onto an active runway behind an aircraft that had just arrived at St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) before crashing into a police car on Thursday.
Justin Doyle of Ferguson, MO walked down a grassy area and gained access to a parked utility truck near Terminal 1. The truck was unlocked and running. He allegedly stole the truck and crashed through a security gate. He used the truck to block a taxiing aircraft. Police approached the truck and Doyle got out before hopping back in and speeding off with police on his tail.
Officers used their cars to redirect the stolen truck as it was speeding up behind an aircraft that had just landed. They got him away from the aircraft and he spun off of the runway. He turned and hit one of the police cars head on. Even after he crashed, his foot was on the accelerator until police forced him out of the truck at gunpoint. He was quickly arrested and now faces charges of first-degree property damage, second-degree property damage, second degree terrorist threat, resisting arrest by fleeing, and two second-degree assault charges according to The St. Louis Post Dispatch.
Anthony’s Take: Officers did a good job of protecting the airport and luckily no one was injured or worse. No word has been released on his motive for these dangerous actions.
