Hyatt announced today that it is bringing its most upscale brand to Vancouver. The 119-room Park Hyatt will be housed in the tallest building in Vancouver and offer breathtaking views of the city’s harbor, mountains, and skyline once renovations to convert it from the Shangri-La and Hyatt Vancouver Downtown Alberni (the name it’s currently operating under) are complete. The reimagined Park Hyatt Vancouver will feature redesigned guestrooms, a residential-style lobby, and a new spa. This will become the city’s first Park Hyatt and Hyatt’s fifth hotel in British Columbia.

The Hyatt Vancouver Downtown Alberni currently offers luxe accommodations, wellness amenities, and upscale dining experience. Guests are within walking distance of luxury shopping on Alberni Street as well as Vancouver’s top attractions. The highlight of the current hotel is its Michelin-recommended restaurant, Carlino, which has already established a loyal following and is reported to be staying with the Park Hyatt. Carlino is inspired by Northern Italian cuisine and focuses on seasonal dishes and locally sourced ingredients.

The hotel currently operates as part of the World of Hyatt program and this will continue post renovations and rebrand. No word has been released around the room rates or category for award redemptions in the World of Hyatt program. It’s currently a Category 7 hotel (meaning redemptions cost between 25,000 and 35,000 points per night. I don’t see that going down.

Scott Richer, Vice President of Development and Owner Relations for Canada, said:

Reimagining this iconic luxury hotel will enable Hyatt to thoughtfully expand our luxury portfolio in Canada. Together with Park Hyatt Toronto, the future Park Hyatt Vancouver will strengthen Hyatt’s luxury brand presence in Canada’s top urban markets and will offer the most discerning travelers a personalized experience in an intimate and enriching setting.”

Anthony’s Take: Park Hyatt and Andaz are my favorite Hyatt brands. I’m excited to see the portfolio continue to grow.
