JetBlue Airways has been trying to find its footing for some time. Is it a low-cost carrier? Should it be a more premium airline with Mint® across the Atlantic, add domestic First Class, and open lounges? It seems to still be struggling as today it’s being reported that the airline is cutting a key transatlantic route and will be giving up a slot that it fought hard to gain.

Aviation watchdog, @IshrionA just reported on X that JetBlue will end its flights between New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) next year. No word has been provided as to why this cancellation is occurring. Last month, JetBlue announced new flights to Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) and Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP). JetBlue will still offer flights to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), but only through Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

The cut is even more surprising considering that JetBlue is opening its first lounge next week and seems to be emphasizing the importance of its international network. Some speculate that this might be in some way related to its partnership with United Airlines, but until more details are released this is anyone’s guess.

Anthony’s Take: I would not have guessed that JetBlue would hack this route. I would think that there would be many others on the chopping block first if this was related to giving gates to United at JFK. Let’s see what comes next when JetBlue officially makes the announcement.
