Breeze Airways is a low-cost airline that offers point-to-point flights to underserved markets across the United States using a fleet of modern Airbus A220 aircraft. I’ve flown Breeze several times and enjoyed the experience, overall (you can read the latest review here). Travel & Leisure named it as one of the five best US airlines for the fourth consecutive year in 2025.
It also just became the first airline in more than 10 years to be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a US Flag Carrier. This certification follows a rigorous evaluation process and allows the airline to begin operating flights to international destinations (other US Flag Carriers include Alaska, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit, United, etc.). Alongside this achievement, Breeze just announced the launch of seasonal service to its first three international destinations in Mexico and the Caribbean as well as plans to open a new crew base in Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) to support its growing operations. Breeze now serves 81 cities in 35 states and three other countries with its latest additions.
Breeze will debut its international service with flights to:
- Cancún International Airport (CUN)
- Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ)
- Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ)
These routes, which are subject to government approval, will operate seasonally beginning this winter and depart from six airports across Breeze’s existing network. The expansion marks a major step for Breeze as it transitions from a domestic carrier to a player in international leisure travel.
Cancún International Airport (CUN)
Flights to Mexico will be offered from these airports:
- Charleston International Airport (CHS) (1x weekly, seasonally on Saturdays; starts on January 17th)
- Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) (1x weekly, seasonally on Saturdays; starts on February 7th)
- Norfolk International Airport (ORF) (1x weekly, seasonally on Saturdays; starts on January 10th)
- Rhode Island T. F. Green International Airport (PVD) (1x weekly, seasonally on Saturdays; starts on February 14th)
Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (MBJ)
Flights to Jamaica will be offered from these airports:
- Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) (2x weekly, seasonally on Thursdays and Sundays; starts on March
5th) - Tampa International Airport (TPA) (2x weekly, seasonally on Wednesdays and Saturdays; starts on February 11th)
Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ)
Flights to the Dominican Republic will be offered from Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) (2x weekly, seasonally on Wednesdays and Saturdays; starts on March 4th)
New Crew Base
Breeze is establishing a new crew base at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU). Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2026, this will be Breeze’s 12th crew base nationwide. The base is expected to create more than 200 new jobs, including pilots and flight attendants, further strengthening Breeze’s presence in the southeastern United States.
Breeze’s network is designed to connect underserved cities directly to popular destinations, eliminating unnecessary connections and reducing travel time. This strategy makes air travel more accessible and convenient for millions of passengers across the United States. The airline operates a modern fleet of Airbus A220-300 aircraft and offers the following:
- Free family seating
- High-speed Wi-Fi
- Preferred seat options
- No change or cancel fees
By combining low fares with premium amenities, Breeze continues to fulfill its mission of making flying both affordable and enjoyable.
David Neeleman, Breeze Airways’ Founder and CEO, said:
Becoming a U.S. flag carrier is a huge milestone for Breeze, and one that our Team Members have been working tirelessly on for the last three years. We’re excited to bring the same convenience and elevated experience they love about our domestic flights to three exciting new international destinations. Breeze is the No. 1 carrier in RDU in terms of destinations served thanks to the growing number of Guests – both new and returning – who love our ‘Seriously Nice’ form of air travel. When evaluating where to expand our base presence next, the Research Triangle was a natural fit and is a desirable location for recruiting new Team Members.”
Anthony’s Take: Congrats to Breeze on its certification and international expansion. This is exciting news for lots of travelers that now have nonstop flights to the sunshine from their home airports.
