I was excited for the Hyatt Regency Times Square to open. It’s the first Hyatt Regency branded property in New York City. While it opened on July 15th, this should have been pushed for a later date. One month after the ribbon was cut and the hotel is still not ready with sections closed and a serious air conditioning issue. Top all of this off with rude staff and no amenities and this place is now my new least favorite hotel in New York City.
I should have known there was going to be an issue when I could not check in using the app. When I arrived a homeless man with a missing leg was stationed in front of the entrance. The agent checking me in was clueless and told me that I had been upgraded. I asked him what I had been upgraded to and he told me the same type of room that I booked, “but it’s on a higher floor.” There are no amenities at the hotel and breakfast is not an option for Globalists. Globalists (if they ask) are given 3,000 points in lieu of the meal. I had to get to a meeting, so I took my key and went to my room.
The room smelled new and was fine, but it was hot. The air conditioning was set to 75. I lowered it to 68 (as low as it goes) and left for more than four hours. When I returned the room was 80 degrees. I tried to call down to the front desk, but no one answered. I walked down and was met with an agent that had a bad attitude. He was not surprised that the room was hot and just started typing. He offered no apology other than to say that the hotel is only one month old and that they’re still figuring things out. I asked for a manager and he huffed before walking over to get another man from a nearby office. The manager was also unfriendly, did not apologize, and asked if I wanted an upgrade to a Deluxe Room. Since it was now 10:30 PM (this evening) and I as tired, I told him I would take the room assigned to me by the agent that started assisting me. The manager reminded me that Globalists get 3,000 bonus points since there is no breakfast. He did nothing else in terms of service recovery and acted as if he was doing me a favor.
There is no signage to direct you to the fitness center in this 795-room hotel. I thought maybe it was on the fourth floor. I was wrong.
This will be event space, but it’s still under construction.
The elevator did not work to take me to the lobby, so I walked down (the also not functional) escalator.
The website does not mention that the property is under construction. But it does tell you that dining is coming soon. At least this stock photo throuple looks like they are enjoying their meal.

To make matters worse, the hotel charges a Destination Fee that is chock full of crap with no real value for $45.90. The hotel offers what amounts to a cheap coupon book for Times Square attractions. As a Globalist, this should be waived. I have a sneaking suspicion I’ll be asking to have it removed from the folio.
Anthony’s Take: I will write a full review of the hotel, but jeez. This hotel was prematurely opened and is a blemish on the Hyatt Regency brand. Hyatt corporate should look into why this hotel was allowed to open without amenities or properly trained staff. I cancelled a second reservation I had coming up at the property and will stay some place else.
