A 24-year-old woman found herself on American’s no-fly list after the airline contended that she [had] “sexual relations with a man on a flight while intoxicated.” The only problem? She did not and says she would not since she is a lesbian.
@erin_wright_ Thanks for being the worst @American Airlines #storytime #funnystory #funnyvideos #airlinetiktok #airplanestory #funny #fyp
Erin Wright was headed to her sister’s bachelorette party and flying to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) for the festivities. She tried to check in on her phone, but was unable to complete the process. She went to the airport and attempted to check in and was told to hold on while the agent made a call. The agent finally gave her the reason and Wright was quite shocked when she was told that she was permanently banned from flying American Airlines.
She questioned the agent as to why she would be banned and was not given an answer due to internal security. She called customer service and got the same reply. Frustrated, she booked a ticket on another carrier and paid $1,000 for the last-minute flight.
After her trip, she continued to dig in and finally was told the answer. She shares:
I finally get an email from corporate security saying that I have been banned because I was having sexual relations with a man on a flight while intoxicated. I am a 24-year-old lesbian. You see me. Am I having sexual relations with any man? No. It took 12 days and many emails from me between when I contacted customer relations to when I actually got an email back.”
She filed an appeal of her no-fly status and her mother contacted American’s legal department. After three months, she was successful and American refunded the $400 she paid for her original flight.
@erin_wright_ Update!!! @American Airlines #storytime #airlinetiktok #airportlife #funnystory #funny
Wright was still out the $1,000 for the new flight and wanted American to reimburse her. It did not. Instead, TikTok viewers found a way to recoup her cash. They made her video go viral and she earned a little more than $1,000 in ad revenue from the video she posted.
Anthony’s Take: I wonder if this was a case of mistaken identity or if the flight attendant wrote down the wrong seat number in an incident report. Either way, I’m glad that she got to go to her sister’s bachelorette party and found a platform to tell her story. Ah, the power of social media. Now who was actually having drunk sex on a plane?
