Norse Atlantic Airways is launching the first nonstop West Coast to Greece flight. This market has not previously been served by any carrier. The new route will fly between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) starting on June 3rd.

Norse Greece

This route will be the longest operated by Norse Atlantic Airways. It clocks in at 12 hours and 40 minutes eastbound and 13 hours and 30 minutes westbound to cover the 6,928 miles. Flights will be operated up to 4x weekly with Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Norse also flies to Athens International Airport Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) from New York John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK). Aircraft are outfitted with 56 Premium Economy and 282 Economy Class seats.

There are some bargains to be had with this route just being announced. Tickets (one way) start at $279 in Economy Class and $475 in Premium Economy. This is a long flight for either of these cabins in my opinion (especially given that Norse is a low-cost carrier without the amenities found on legacy carriers).

Bjørn Tore Larsen, CEO and Founder of Norse Atlantic Airways, said:

We’re thrilled to be launching a new route between Los Angeles and Athens this year. We expect the uptake to be positive as we offer this budget-friendly route, opening up more transatlantic options for our customers and the opportunity to explore the ancient city of Athens and rich history of Los Angeles. Our goal is to make travel accessible and affordable for everyone and this is another step in that mission and in our commitment to offer new destinations.”

Anthony’s Take: I love Greece and there are lots of ways to get there. Norse Atlantic Airways is making it easier for travelers in California to get there, but this is a long flight and one that I would definitely recommend bringing my own snacks.
