I’ve spent thousands of nights in hotels around the world. These have ranged from low-end inns in the middle of nowhere to some of the most luxurious properties anywhere. One thing that remains constant is my vigilance in always checking out the room (and especially under the bed) before settling in for the night.

I’m not looking for the bogeyman, but always think that if I see someone while alert that I can address the situation or flee. If I’m sleeping and someone comes out, I’ll be much more likely to have an issue. TikTok user @esthersturrus is a flight attendant. One of her travel tips is to roll a bottle of water under the bed to see if it hits anything.

If the bottle comes out the other side, you can easily “check that no one is under the bed without looking,” according to the video. Personally, I prefer to just look.

Anthony’s Take: Thankfully, I’ve never found anyone. I have found underwear, an empty beer bottle, and a wig through the years. Do you check under your hotel room’s bed?

I have found a US dime and foreign currency under the bed. Too bad I haven’t gone to that country to spend the money and it’s now worthless because the currency was weak

No I pretty much figure that there’s nobody hiding underneath my hotel bed. We all have our own quirks.
