The Delta Sky Clubs® and Centurion Lounges by American Express have been super crowded over the past few years. Both Delta and American Express have worked to thin the herd by limiting guest access to a set number of passes and taking away the ability to bring others with you without paying. There is a way to avoid this restriction and that is to spend $75,000 on either The Platinum Card by American Express or Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card in a calendar year. I just passed that threshold. Here’s why it makes sense for me to hit this annually.
The Platinum Card by American Express is not the greatest travel card and its earnings are limited to 1x points in many categories. Where it shines is its earnings on airfare. The card grants 5x points for airfare purchased directly with airlines around the globe. My business and personal travel allows me to max this out, earn 375,000 points (the cap is set at 500,000 each year), and get access to the lounges for myself and those I’m traveling with.
Anthony’s Take: I’m excited to be over the hump and to not have to worry about counting passes or paying for guests. This worked well and I love the 5x earnings on flights.
