The MGM Grand is the flagship property of MGM Resorts in Las Vegas and the largest hotel in the world with 5,124 rooms in one building (the largest hotel spread across multiple buildings is the First World Hotel in Malaysia with 6,119 rooms, but they’re split between three buildings). The massive property is undergoing a $300 million renovation to the rooms and suites in its Main Tower (4,212 rooms and suites). Along with the refreshes to these spaces, MGM Grand will add NETFLIX BITES (a Netflix-themed restaurant) and the Palm Tree Beach Club.
The Main Tower remodel will draw inspiration from the glamour of the disco era while combining modern elements. Rooms will feature bold artwork while blending functionality, comfort, and style. Bathrooms will be upgraded with walk-in showers and bright porcelain finishes to create a spa-like ambiance. Closets will be complete with mirrored, illuminated interiors. Enhanced blackout drapery will help to eliminate light while wall-mounted TVs free up valuable surface space and minibars will include separate guest-use refrigerators. I love when hotels offer these to guests. The hotel is modernizing its tech as well with USB, USB-C, and traditional outlets near the beds.
King Rooms will be decked out in rich walnut wood finishes, warm gray textured wall coverings, and vibrant carpet designs. Queen Rooms will have lighter gray stone finishes, vertical sconce accents, and tailored headboards. The MGM Grand will add 111 suites to its Main Tower (for a total of 753). These range in size from 675 to 2,572 square feet. Suites will feature a blend of dark ebony and walnut wood finishes and sheer roller shades to create a brighter, more inviting atmosphere. Bathrooms in the suites will offer double mirrors and new showers. Suite upgrades also include reconfigured layouts for enhanced privacy, multi-functional work and entertainment spaces, and elevated finishes like quartz bathroom benches and illuminated mirrors. Newly remodeled rooms will begin to be bookable on March 1st.
The MGM Grand will open NETFLIX BITES on February 20th. This will be a Netflix-themed restaurant with cuisine inspired by popular Netflix shows. Sample dishes include:
- Eleven’s Fried Feast: Crispy chicken and waffle sliders perfect for foodies who love a little dimension-hopping, served both “Hawkins” style and “Upside Down” style.
- Bridgerton Regency Tea: A lavish three-tiered tea service with finger sandwiches, scones, and pastries straight from the ton, served with a menu designed by Lady Whistledown herself.
- La Casa del Sangria: A Spanish-style cocktail with gold-dusted mint leaves, served in a lockbox that’ll have guests solving a puzzle — challenging for even the sharpest of the Money Heist crew.
- Too Hot to Handle-inspired Bloody Mary: A cocktail so spicy it comes with its own pot holder in case guests can’t handle the heat!
Additionally, this May will see the opening of Palm Tree Beach Club. This tropical-inspired day club is being founded by musical artists Kygo and Myles Shear and opened in partnership with Tao Group Hospitality. The club will be able to host 3,000 people and span 60,000 feet with a stage, saltwater pool, bungalows, cabanas, daybeds, and chaise lounges.
With the renovations, this property will be even more appealing to Marriott Bonvoy® members looking to earn and burn points in Sin City through the relatively new partnership struck between MGM Resorts and Marriott.
Anthony’s Take: The MGM Grand has been a little long in the tooth and in need of some love. It’s been a long time since the live lions left the building along with the Rainforest Cafe. It will be great to see this disco rebirth, NETFLIX BITES, and the new pool club.
