Marriott announced a new agreement with HTL Gateway LLC today to debut the AC Hotels by Marriott® brand in Mongolia. The upcoming property, AC Hotel by Marriott Ulaanbaatar, marks Marriott’s official entry into the country and expands the hotel giant’s footprint further cross Asia Pacific. The hotel is expected to open its doors in 2027.
The new AC Hotel will be part of a mixed-use development in Ulaanbaatar’s rapidly growing Khan Uul District. It’s strategically situated along Buyant-Ukhaa Road and provides easy access to the Central Business District, Sukhbaatar Square, and Ulaanbaatar’s Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN). The surrounding area is emerging as a vibrant commercial and residential hub that is home to major attractions and facilities such as:
- Buyant Ukhaa Sport Palace
- AIC Steppe Arena
- Yaarmag’s growing retail and business developments
This prime positioning will enable the property to cater to both business and leisure travelers while supporting the city’s increasing role as a regional destination for tourism, commerce, and culture.
The AC Hotel by Marriott Ulaanbaatar will balance modern form and function to provide a seamless experience for discerning global travelers. The hotel will feature 190 guestrooms and suites with a focus on thoughtful details and streamlined design. Planned facilities include an all-day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurant showcasing local and international flavors, a grab-and-go AC Store, a lounge and bar, a heated indoor swimming pool, a fitness center, and a spa with curated treatments. For business travelers, the hotel will also include flexible meeting and event spaces.
Mongolia’s tourism sector has experienced rapid growth in recent years, welcoming over 800,000 international visitors in 2024, a record high for the country. The opening of AC Hotel by Marriott Ulaanbaatar is expected to play a large role in shaping the modern hospitality landscape of the capital city by meeting the demands of both international and domestic travelers. United even began flying there this year from Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT).
Duke Nam, Regional Vice President for Korea, Vietnam & Philippines at Marriott International, said:
We are excited to expand Marriott International’s portfolio into Mongolia, a country that is emerging as both a dynamic business hub and a distinctive leisure destination. This signed agreement reflects our confidence in Mongolia’s long-tern tourism potential and underscores our commitment to bringing diverse hospitality experiences to this growing market.”
Anthony’s Take: Marriott seems to have no end to its growth. It’s exciting to see it enter Mongolia. Since United added flights, I put it on my list.
