Marriott International has reached a landmark moment in its expansion across Asia Pacific (excluding China) with the opening of Legacy Mekong, Can Tho, Autograph Collection. The debut marks the company’s 700th property in the region and underscores its ongoing strategy to grow beyond traditional gateway markets.

Located on a private islet along the Hau River, Legacy Mekong, Can Tho brings the Autograph Collection’s focus on storytelling and individuality to Vietnam’s lush Mekong Delta. It becomes the second Autograph Collection hotel in the country (joining Vinpearl Landmark 81 in Ho Chi Minh City).
With 30 hotels already open in Vietnam and more than 50 in the pipeline, Marriott continues to expand its footprint from major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to emerging travel destinations including Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, and Ha Giang. Vietnam’s rapid tourism growth (it surpassed 17 million international visitors in the first ten months of 2025) positions the country as one of Asia’s rising leisure and business hubs.
This opening further strengthens Marriott’s long-term expansion plans in Asia. The hotelier now operates 700 hotels across 27 brands in 22 countries (with another 400 properties on the way). Marriott Bonvoy® has nearly 260 million global members and connects travelers to hotels and resorts across the region.

Surrounded by almost 20 acres of tropical gardens, Legacy Mekong, Can Tho offers guests a retreat inspired by the natural landscapes and cultural rhythms of the Mekong Delta (known as Vietnam’s Rice Basket). Designs throughout the property reflect mangroves, banyan trees, and orchard traditions. Guests are welcomed with palm leaf-woven bracelets, herbal infusions, and local blessings before settling into one of 86 bungalows and private pool villas overlooking the garden, lake, or river.

The property showcases the region through immersive culinary and cultural experiences. Dining highlights the Mekong’s flavors through fresh, local ingredients and features menus that tell the story behind each dish. Wellness experiences include a hydrotherapy spa, yoga and Pilates studio, and a meditation pavilion. Families will enjoy a dedicated children’s club, while the serene courtyard pool and ritual touches such as gong ceremonies and herbal refreshments deepen the sense of place. As a final gesture, guests depart with a symbolic linen pouch of seeds and an invitation to carry the Mekong home.

Rajeev Menon, President of Asia Pacific excluding China at Marriott International, said:
Introducing our 700th property in APEC is a proud moment that reflects the trust our owners, partners, and guests place in Marriott. Vietnam continues to be one of our most exciting growth markets, and the opening of the Legacy Mekong, Can Tho, Autograph Collection highlights our commitment to thoughtfully expanding our presence beyond major cities, introducing travelers to new destinations that are rich in culture, character, and opportunity.”
Anthony’s Take: This property looks serene and relaxing. 700 hotels in Asia (excluding China) is quite a lot and I know that I can find a Marriott-affiliated property pretty much wherever I go.
