The outdoor lodging segment continues to boom. Hilton launched a partnership last year with AutoCamp to offer guests the ability to stay in custom Airstreams and luxury tents. Then, World of Hyatt® announced that Under Canvas’ 13 outdoor resorts would be bookable as part of its Mr and Mrs Smith partnership back in July 2024. Now, Marriott International has unveiled Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors, a new digital platform designed to make planning outdoor adventures simpler, more inspiring, and more rewarding. The launch redefines how travelers discover and book trips by focusing not only on destinations, but also on the activities they love, such as skiing, surfing, hiking, scuba diving, and more.

Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors

The platform brings together more than 450 hotels, 50,000 Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, and curated tours and activities that offer direct access to outdoor experiences worldwide. Guests can now seamlessly book stays and activities in destinations ranging from ski slopes in Switzerland to paddle boarding in Banff or scuba diving in Belize.

Outdoor Collection by Marriott Bonvoy™

Alongside the platform, Marriott is debuting its newest brand: Outdoor Collection by Marriott Bonvoy™. This portfolio highlights design-forward, outdoor-focused stays in natural settings. From cabins near national parks to boutique hotels on cliffside locations, each property combines easy access to nature with essential comforts like running water, comfortable beds, and private restrooms.

Two inaugural brands will anchor the Outdoor Collection by Marriott Bonvoy™. These include:

  • Postcard Cabins: More than 1,200 Scandinavian-inspired cabins across 29 US locations, typically within two hours of major cities. Each cabin offers privacy, fire pits, and direct access to trails and lakes.
  • Trailborn Hotels: Boutique stays in iconic destinations like the Blue Ridge Mountains, Grand Canyon, and Wrightsville Beach. Trailborn blends architectural style with curated dining, cultural programming, and guided outdoor excursions.

These brands were first announced as joining Marriott Bonvoy® back in December 2024. It’s good to see the brands find a home within Marriott’s massive portfolio.

Drop Pin Challenge

To celebrate the launch, Marriott Bonvoy® is hosting the Drop Pin Challenge. This is a real-world treasure hunt across 20 outdoor destinations in the US and Canada. In partnership with adventurer and filmmaker Dylan Efron, it gives participants the chance to win from a pool of 10 million Marriott Bonvoy® points. At each location, travelers can scan a physical “map pin” symbol, with the first 50 eligible people per pin earning 10,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points. The first drop took place at Big Bear Lake, CA (with more locations to follow).

Peggy Roe, Executive Vice President and Chief Customer Officer at Marriott International, said:

We built Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors to help people, whether that’s cresting a mountain trail, catching the perfect wave, or simply finding quiet under the stars. Travel is at its best when it speaks to who we are and what we love. It’s about reconnecting with yourself and the people you love in the places that inspire you most. With the new Outdoor Collection by Marriott Bonvoy, our curated Marriott Bonvoy Moments, and even playful activations like the Drop Pin Challenge with Dylan Efron, we’re not just offering places to stay, we’re opening doors to experiences that inspire, connect, and stay with you forever.”

Anthony’s Take: I’m not outdoorsy and this does not appeal to me, but the market is growing and Marriott is smart to position these assets in the way that it has bundled them here.
