Marriott announced this week that it plans to bring three of its luxe brands to Calgary: W Calgary, JW Marriott Calgary, and an Autograph Collection Hotel at Stampede Park. These developments will mark Marriott’s first luxury hotel and residential offerings in Calgary and help to introduce a new chapter for tourism and real estate in the city’s fast-growing Culture + Entertainment District.
The trio of properties will roll out between 2028 and 2030 as part of a $1.47 billion private investment that is expected to deliver over 700 premium and luxury hotel rooms and nearly 360 branded residences. The development will also generate more than 9,100 construction jobs and 2,000 ongoing roles.
The properties are set to redefine luxury and lifestyle in Western Canada while bringing the brand elements that are loved by guests of each brand. These include:
- Autograph Collection Hotel at Stampede Park: Opening in 2028, this hotel will offer 320 rooms and suites. It will include 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space, multiple restaurants and bars, a rooftop lounge, and an expansive leisure terrace complete with a pool and a fitness center.
- W Calgary: Scheduled to open in 2029, it will feature 157 guest rooms, 27 suites, 239 branded residences, a 7,500-square-foot AWAY Spa, specialty dining, 16,259 square feet of meeting space, an FIT studio, a rooftop bar, and W’s iconic Living Room.
- JW Marriott Calgary: Expected in 2030, this hotel will feature 248 guest rooms and 120 branded residences. Amenities will include 32,500 square feet of meeting space, indoor/outdoor pools, a JW Market, JW Garden, and retail shops.
The hotels will be built within Calgary’s Culture + Entertainment District, a revitalized neighborhood shaped by the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) through over $2 billion in city-building infrastructure projects. This expansion underscores Marriott’s commitment to offering diverse hospitality experiences in Canada, and positions Calgary as a top-tier destination for global travelers, conventions, and cultural experiences.
Paul Cahill, Chief Operating Officer, Canada, Marriott International, said:
As Marriott continues to expand our hospitality options in Canada to meet the diverse needs of guests, owners and developers, W Calgary, JW Marriott Calgary, and the Autograph Collection Hotel are poised to usher in an unparalleled level of hospitality to this high-energy city. We are thrilled to closely collaborate with Truman and Louson, whose combined passion and love for Calgary will be a perfect complement to the elevated service that guests have come to expect from the Marriott Bonvoy® portfolio.”
Anthony’s Take: I love all of the growth the W Hotels brand is seeing. It’s lost the dated, clubby feel and is now my kind of modern luxe.
