Marriott Bonvoy® just updated members with its soft landing policy for next year and like years past, members will only fall one level if they do not qualify for the same status that they currently hold. This is a nice move on the part of Marriott and something that it has done for many years.

Marriott Bonvoy

The Marriott Bonvoy® program has five levels of elite status. These include:

  • Silver Elite (10+ nights stayed)
  • Gold Elite (25+ nights stayed)
  • Platinum Elite (50+ nights stayed)
  • Titanium Elite 75+ nights stayed)
  • Ambassador Elite (100+ nights stayed, plus $23,000 in spend)

With this policy for those that will not requalify, members can expect:

  • In January 2026, members who achieved their existing elite status will have their current status renewed through February 2027.
  • In early March 2026, members who did not achieve their existing elite status will be offered one tier below their current status through February 2027.
  • Members who achieve a higher elite status level during 2025 already have a status expiration date of February 2027.

Soft landings like the ones Marriott is offering help to maintain loyalty and push travelers to choose one chain over another. Someone might have changed jobs, had a child, suffered an illness, etc. one year, but they might be back to their old travel patterns the next. This policy recognizes that while still maintaining value for those that achieved the status themselves.

Anthony’s Take: I support Marriott showing its elite members that they are still valued if their stays slip for a year. I requalified for Titanium Elite in early summer and will lock in Hyatt Globalist soon.
